Steve Kim and myself launched my new kayak (two person Keowee 2) at the "spot" for its maiden voyage. Made our way down to just off the spit as the tide turned to incoming. Water was like glass, and the bugs - well Jay would be scared. Lots of fish around - splashes here and there, nervous water - but not the tight schools of bass we have seen for the last few days. My feeling is you have to wait for at least 1-2 hours into the incoming.
Managed to land two bass and one very large jumping like crazy shad (yes mike a shad...).
Now for the kayak. - Wonderfully roomy version of the popular Keowee single person. Just like that version, its not the fastest thing on the water, nor does it track very well - but.... its stable enough to stand in (at least with two people).
What a rush - As I stood casting, Steve paddled and steered. I really felt as if I was in a flats boat. Give me a 14' pole and skinny water (like 2 ") and you could really chase bass all day. I'll be taking it to wacky in the early AM, so we'll see how she does with one person...
