Fished the canal with my buddy Tony last night from 4 to 10pm. 15 or so fish, most 24-26.5" with one 30". Many fish surface feeding at dusk. All fish were very picky and would only hit moving bait. Thousands of juvi herrings floating around. We missed probably another 20 fish combined. Bait shop (Bud's) told us it was dead, just like two weeks ago. Combined fishing both nights yielded six keepers. In a word, don't listen to them!
