well, by the book, the run is supposed to close when the quota is full. once they reach 50,000 fish, regardless of when that is, they are technically supposed to end the harvest. that has never been the cases though. case in point, last season they hit the 50,000 herring quota on the second day of the derby. so as not to ruin vacation plans, the derby, etc, the town opted to leave the harvest open until the end of the derby. they were under no obligation to do this, they were only trying to give the people who bought permits their money's worth.
