I read an article that agreed that the LxGxG/800 formula is good for most fish, but that a better formula for fat fish (like largemouth bass) is LxGxG/1200. I tried it out with a real largemouth. Fish was 5.5# (on my Normark), L=21.75, G=17.75. The /800 formula is 8.57#, the /1200 formula is 5.71#. If you are fortunate enough to get a fat striper you might want to use the /1200 formula. Then again, the /800 formula gives you a bigger fish:-)
