Rocky,

The knots are not similar, here's what Lefty and Mark Sosin say about the Homer
Rhode Loop Knot: "It has mediocre strength and should only be used when the leader
material is at least twice the breaking strength of the fishing line."
The non-slip knot is quite a bit more difficult to tie.

Flyguy, I would not use a swivel for stripers as it might make them a little leader
shy. Just my opinion.
