Bob, I can't figure out if you are bluffing or not sometimes. Don't take that the wrong way, I have a lot of respect for what you say here. BUT, you know that fisherman can keep a straighter face than the best poker players. The last 5 days I have spoken to many an olde time fisherman on the canal. ALL have said the season is over until I tell them I get fish until late November in the ditch, than they proceed to tell me they do also, and that the "big" push of BIG fish has not begun yet and wait a week or so. The general consensus is "good, more room for me" when the topic of most people think the season is over.
4 years running, our biggest fish have been caught between Nov 1 and Nov 15. You are right about the bait, but stripers are not following a genetic imprint of a map, they move dynamically and will move through the canal if that is the way they have gone in the past- and if the bait is going through.
