Saturday looked to be the perfect fall day. Light wind, perfect tides and a bright sunshine to keep the temps aloft. Surely the fish would cooperate. I mean, come on, the Fall fury can't be over yet right? Wrong. Or perhaps we just did something terribly wrong. We started at the 6 can. Fished several of the rips for two hours. Never really liked the way the rip was running but thought there would be bass there anyway. No way. Saw a few boats working all over and never saw a fish caught. They quickly up and left to new shores. Left to go find the Mcblair and worked that for a while. Perhaps the tide was wrong. No score. went out to Old Mans. Followed a couple charters from Nantucket. They split after a half hour and no scores. It looked and felt dead. Went to the reliable Sankaty where we always had trolled up a few bass and blues no matter what the tide or weather. Nothing. Lost a rig though. Actually had a blue on but it fell off. On the way back to Hyannis we stopped at Grea
t Point. Trolled up a couple very small bluefish. Had a hard time figuring out what they were doing around. Another small bass around 24 inches. Went over a large hole on Great point and the fishfinder was awash with bodies but we couldn't drum them up. Tried the parachutes and even live eels but no luck. Decided the season was done and headed home. Still don't understand this Fall run deal. We kick but all season long at these rips, and then, when everybody says that this is the time, well it isn't. No big fish, no steady fish. Sure September was good but does October always stink like this? Montauk or bust I say.
