Larry, spend $20 for a 5 wt fiberglass rod (its only going to get banged around in your trunk anyway!)
Get a floating line for when the midges do come off.
(I have a ton of old reels, cheap, yet effective and some old 5 wt WF floating line)
I'll be glad to give it to you if you want (I never use the old stuff anyway)
This way, when your slinging your sinkers/weighted wollybuggers and you see those bueatiful rings
to midges, just put your 7 wt aside, pick up your cheapo 5 wt and have FUN!
