John,
Get out there! I called it quits a week ago too, but my buddy told me to keep a rod in the car just in case...Well, I'm back. The canal has been hot every morning at dawn from the Herring Run East. I'm tossing a Gibbs 1.5 oz pencil popper (mackerel pattern) and having good luck. Bigger fish at dawn (up to 30"), progressively getting smaller as the sun rises. Had the ditch to myself Wednesday, more folks out Thursday, and pretty busy this morning. I'm leaving a half hour early for work, fishing the daybreak for 30 minutes and catching 5 or six fish before jumping back in the car and beginning the work day. There's bigger fish underneath and there's tinker mackerel running right up to the banks. I called it a season because I thought the big fish were gone. I'm glad I was wrong! Don't be too proud to get back out there!
