Spent a fabulous morning fishing in Waquoit Bay yesterday morning with Bob Parsons and his 1 1/2 yr old Golden Retreiver, Kasha, in his boat. We went all over the back of Waquoit Bay, drifting through narrow channels with the tide. Found a couple that produced schoolies on nearly every drift, and we had double-header hookups on a couple of occasions. Bob caught fish on both spin and fly, and I finally christened the new 8-wt with several little'uns. On one of our drifts, a neighboring Great Blue Heron finally tired of our imposing on his fishing grounds, and flew off with a VERY loud squawk! I don't think I'd ever heard a Great Blue like that before. We caught 15-20, and released each one--but not before Kasha the bass-sniffing dog gave the obligatory nuzzle, letting us know the fish could now be returned to the water.
Around 2pm, we were only about a quarter of the way through a previously productive drift, when Bob says "let's try another spot." I was wondering why he wanted to leave, but obliged. We went WAY back into the bay, and Bob hooked up on his first cast. A couple of casts later, Bob was fast into a fish--I was it roll, saw its size, and immediately dropped my fly rod and grabbed my Kodak disposable from my backpack and began taking picture after picture. After a nice fight, Bob landed a fat 26-inch striper, which I thought was the big fish of the, but later learned was beat by a 27-incher caught by one of Josko's kids.
