9-19 (night), 9-20 AM: Canal (Picking Up)

After a Saturday of keyboard banging work, I was ready for another late night
/early morning eel assault on the Canal.

So I fished from 9:30 PM to 11:30 PM, caught a nap, and then fished
from 3 AM to sunup.

9:30 to 11:30 was as dead as it has been. Just one blue.

However, the early AM shift finally broke my bass drought (thanks to Scott S.
for the tip). Went to the
same place in the east end where I'd been doing well in July and first
half of August. About 1/2 hour before low slack, I got hit after hit
on eels. Wound up with two keepers (just at or over 28 inches), a 26",
and a 24" and a whole bunch of pick ups and drops. No monsters, but things
have picked up (maybe it's just the
favorable tides). Anyway, not bad for one hour of fishing. Everything
turned off like a switch about a half hour after the tide turn, and it
was back to bluefish again.

Some surface action after sunup this morn, but sporadic at best and mostly blues.
