A Lesson Learned

I'll make this short. Was out yesterday afternoon on some rocks near Portland, ME
and got into fish big-time. Caught a few and then started missing every hit for
about 15 casts. Some very nice fish were taking swipes at the fly and had a 35-40"
follow right up to the rocks. After much cursing and groaning I finally got smart
and looked at the fly, which was now just a shank with some feathers on it. No
hook point left! I apparently had hit a rock on the backcast and busted it off
and unknowingly had been fishing the PETA approved method. In the excitement I had
not even considered looking at the fly, I just thought I was being an idiot and
not setting the hook correctly. So always remeber to check your gear, it sounds
obvious but in the midst of a blitz your excitement can cause you to make some regrettable
mistakes.
