Spot light etiqitte??

Seems like many people on this board look upon use of a spotlight while night boating as if it were criminal and against all rules of boating. I have been night boating for many years and I will tell you, it is sometimes very necessary. I assure you, I would much rather piss you off than run my very expensive toy into a jetty, or worse. Anyone want to offer what would be considered proper spot light etiquitte. I don't no about anyone else but I can't pick out channel markers with naked eye on some of the darker nights - again, running aground can very expensive!
