FWIW, Canal sharpies have used dacron line on revolving spool tackle to fish jigs and eelskin rigs for more than 30 years.
The use of dacron cuts down on distance somewhat but is much more sensative than using a graphite rod with mono.
You can actually tell what that 3 or 4 oz. jig is doing out there. Many times if you don't hit bottom, you don't get any hits.
