vlad, i'd shy away from long rods. if the rod is to be used strictly for chunking, then distance is not an issue. also, it's difficult to land larger fish up close since the long tip creates such a dramatic angle from tip to water, many times causing pull outs, or break offs on really large fish. keep the rod between 91/2 to 10 feet. good quality graphite with high quality guides. as far as reels, go with what your comfortable with. you don't need to cast far, so any of the good conventionals out there will do. line, stick with mono, i use 40 lb berkley big game.even when i'm fshing hard, i change it every week. it's cheap and i havn't broke off a fish in years. stay away from those super-braids and other high-tech lines. they don't fish as well, and if you get hung up, may times you can't break off. i watched some jamock cut his line 3 times in a row since he couldn't break off when he hung up! now, you've got a 1/2 mile of line out there that doesn't deteriorate well, and when someone else hangs on it, it won't break either!
