Rocky, I just took up fly fishing this year as well. One of the best things I did was to take a lesson with Jeff Doyle who is associated with Old Salt in Hingham. Jeff is raising money for cancer research and gives the full $50 for the lesson to this cause. How great is that, get a lesson from someone who REALLY knows how to cast as well as donate $50 to a good cause. The website is located at www.oldsaltoutfitters.com/Casting4ACure.htm. In my case Jeff started the lesson on one the Old Salt charter boats with Brian O'neil as captain but we only got about 15 minutes in before a huge thunder storm rolled in. Jeff and I could not hook up after that so Brian took me out in the Old Salt launching boat to finish off the lesson. Brian is also an incredible fly caster. 100 feet with a floating line (no shooting head) was no problem for him. The bonus was we hooked up with some schoolies in Hingham harbor and the lesson/fishing trip lasted 3 hours. I was able through Jeff & Brian to correct my form and stop the bad habbits I had started on my own. Now all I need to do is pratice, practice, practice.
