My first real foray into roll my own shooting head.
Recall my 450 rain LLBeans Superhead lost 22 or the 25 feet of sink tip last week. I looped the remaining end; 3' of head; then 75 or 80' fused running line and added a 15' looped fast sink tip from my Stu Apte mix and match line.
I'm not having problems throwing it in the yard, I can put it out my regular 60' without effort which is fine for me. Its actually pleasant to cast as its far lighter than the previous 25' length of weighted head.
So here's the question to all of you mix and matchers out there. I never liked the way the 25' sink tip performed in the water; it was almost impossible to keep in contact with the fly. Will a shorter sink tip allow me better line control, yet sink at a reaosnable rate, grains of lead powder/inch being equal?
