As you know, I am new to this salt thing and with it
new to stripping baskets. In the stream, when you let
your line dangle, the water resistance will prevent tangles.
You also will never shoot line like you can out of a stripping
basket.
Here's what I think I learned.
1: Mesh stripping baskets are prone to tangles (line coils shift easily)
2: A dishpan basket w/ "egg crate" or otherwise in bottom [to make it harder
for line coils to shift around] is much preferred
3: If the line has memory (coils from being on the reel) you *will* tangle and
the problem only becomes worse after you get the ead out and are into the smaller
diameter running line.
For now, I am winding my line around my stripping basket when not in use and
throwing the reel or spool inside (so line is still attached to reel). Seems
simple and efficient. Perhaps someone has a better idea. I've seen a
lot of posts here on this one.
