This was a real interesting day. Highlights/lowlights below:
- A pretty nice display of Northern Lights at 4:30 AM.
- Probably had my biggest bass (or biggest something!) of the season on an eel
at sunup at the east end. I knew I was in trouble when the fish dove for the bottom
and I could do absolutely nothing to stop it. I tried getting up on
the rip rap to keep my line from wrapping around stuff on bottom, but it
was too late. The bass had wrapped itself around two rocks and
I finally had to cut it free. Definitely a nice fish though.
- Little to medium fish breaking all over the east end at sunup that wouldn't take
anything. I spoke with a number of people who think that,
although some of these fish are micro-bass, many
are false albacore, which explains why they weren't hitting
anything. In fact, I saw someone foul hook a FA at the Sandwich
Marina bulkhead and saw another one from the Canal at Canal Bait (in a
cooler)). The Canal is chock full of FA right now.
-Lots more blues than bass. Eeled and jigged plenty in the east end.
Just pick a rip and go at it.
-Caught a 26 inch bass off the bulkhead at Canal Fish
Processing and tried to hand line it up the wall. Unfortunately,
I lost my grip on the line, the fish fell 5 feet just short of the water,
and snap goes my rod (in half)! This is the one I'm using Fireline on.
Gee I guess this stuff really doesn't have much "give." ;-)
