I've been fishing the beaches in newport for two weeks this season and have scored on each trip. The fish at second beach have been on the small side 15" at the biggest so small flys have been the ticket. For spinning try a small grubtail on a leadhead ji
g. or a small 1/4 oz bucktail jig. high tide or around sunset have been the optimum times to try. The fish are feeding on small imature sand eels 1-1 1/2 inches long so fly fishermen have been out fishing spinners at least 3 to 1. but the spinners are tak
ing an occational fish or two. On another note last night I found a school of larger fresh bass at a spot not far from 2nd beach that gave up 6 fish at around 24"
