Wade-fished both places this afternoon and evening. Agawam River about 2 hours before
high tide and Coles River around high slack.
There was less schoolie striper activity today at the Agawam than on Sunday. We were
all using small bucktail jigs but one guy was doing considerably better than most of us.
After trying different locations and so forth, we switched to
chartreuse bucktails and immediately started catching fish where we were chucking
white bucktails 30 seconds earlier. The water here is pretty murky, so
perhaps chartreuse is more visible under these conditions.
Fish ran from 12-15 inches, and one of the ones I caught had what
looked like sea lice.
The Coles, where Rte 103 crosses the river in Swansea, was more active.
Caught about 7 fish from 9 (!) to 16 inches. Tried Clousers
and then tried bucktail jigs, but they were having neither. A blue-backed surface swimming
plug turned out to be the turn-on. Most of these schoolies were darkish and had mild "fin ick"
so I think they're probably hold-overs. A few lightning flashes right overhead
at sundown were enough for me to call it a day.
