4-16-98: Buzzards Bay, Cotuit Report

Tried various spots in Buzzards yesterday. The tide at all was lower and slacker than I like, but what can you do.

Weweantic was mostly a scouting expedition, as I never have fished it before. Checked out just below the Rte 6 bridge (ran into some boot-sucking mud) and then the power-line pool on the other bank, but no schoolies.

The Agawam River pool turned out to be the skunk-saver, as I picked up a handful
on curly-tail white grub jigs fished very slowly. The two guys who were there before me said they were running even better before I came (this is a recording...;-)). Sizes to 15 inches.

Buttermilk Bay Narrows was at dead low and the tide was just starting to come in. No hits on Clousers however. Again, this was a first-time fishing area so
I've still got to learn the spot. When I walked in, a fly fisherman who was leaving said he picked up a couple (including one at 18") so this place is waking up.

After a dinner break, I drove over to Cotuit and fished a couple of the town landings in the bay on the outgoing. Nothing doing at any of them, although I saw one fly fisherman pick up a lone schoolie.

All in all, a slower day than it has been recently.
