Launched my new toy (Wilderness Systems "Pungo") at Punkhorn Pt. yesterday morning, after having looked at the various Falmouth ponds and seen nothing. [Clearly, my timing was off. I just read Larry's post and it seems there was stuff to have seen].
There were some splashes right off Gooseberry Island so I went over to cast at them. My first fish came while I was waiting for a target to cast at -- a couple of feet of line plus the leader were just dangling in the water and a 20" fish came straight u
p for it. Yee hah. The breaking fish were sporadic and not concentrated so I trolled around a little, losing one fish and landing a skinny 13"er.
Then I set out for the spit. I almost never got there because the flats on the left side of the bay started exploding with really big boils. I got over there and cast at the first big boil in casting range and was promptly on to a big fat olive and purpl
e and green backed sea-lice ridden gorgeous striper of well over 20", like maybe 22/24". Gotta start bringing the tape measure.
The action must have lasted about an hour, figuring from having caught about a half dozen identical cousins of this beauty. It was position, boil, cast, hook up, and get towed around for a while, then start again.
Then the sky greyed over, a steady ripple came on the water, the fish stopped breaking. I went out to the spit and tried a few other things, but the action was over for me.
