I've been doing it days. See 50-70 fish per day. Present fly to 15-20 fish. Have fly followed by 50% of those that get presented. Get rejected by 100% of those that follow.
The prevailent bait is sand eels and silversides. I'm working on an even more realistic imitation of them. Literally have watched bass come up to eat bait coming off the edge of a bar at my feet. Dead drift, slow strip, quick strip, notihing is working. I'm going to start trying to watch the fly, strip slow until the fish approaches, then switch to a fast strip, possibly changing the rod angle to simulate a fleeing bait. Can't hurt.
Luckily I spend the morning in the surf, where the fish aren't anywhere near so picky.
