This is only the second time I've been there, but I found that,
by probing with casts 50 ft on either side of the bar I was able to find
somewhat less weedy areas. But I had to use surface lures like shallow
swimmers/teasers or poppers; a jig guaranteed a hunk of "salad."
My guess is that I'd probably avoid the place from
shore when there has been a prolonged hard-blowing SW wind or storm to
dirty things up and hit the bay side instead. I suspect it's cleaner when there
has been a west, nw, or north wind blowing for a day or two, which is more
common in the fall.
