Re: Striper fishing in Maine

To the person who was asking about trout fishing in Maine, in a previous life
not-so-long-ago, all I did was trout/salmon fishing in Northern Maine (God's
Country (tm)). Didn't even own a surf rod.

Even north of Moosehead Lake, trout fishing's kind of tough up there at this time
of year. The best spots in August are probably the Roach River on the east side
of Moosehead for both brookies and salmon and the West Branch of the Penobscot
upstream of Nesowadnehunk Falls. The Roach is fly fishing only and the west
branch is no bait (I believe). I'd also check out the Rapid River in
Rangely and the Kennebec where it leaves Moosehead Lake. Of course, you can try deep trolling anywhere
on lakes like Moosehead and Sebago which will probably get you down where the
fish are, but I never was much of a fan of that kind of fishing.

Hello to Mike T. How was Montana? I'm headed up to Buckport, ME (on the Penobscot)
one one of the next few weekends for some non-fishing activity, but of course
I'm sneaking a rod with me anyway. I know the stripers get up that far, but
they're probably a long shot from shore.
