John,
It sounds as if you may be ready to try an Airflo HiSense Coldwater Clear
Intermediate line. I've had one since May and it has performed very well. It
tangles significantly less than my Cortland Ice Blue Intermediate line. The
key to preventing tangles in my estimation is to get all of the twist which
accumulates in the running line out of it. Its simply a matter of getting the
twist out of the line prior to fishing and having an enjoyable night, or not
getting it out and having one tangle after another. I have proven this
theory to myself hundreds of times. How does the twist get into the line:
roll casting, fouled wings on streamers, bits of weed, hooked fish that roll,
So if you keep the line clean, free of twist, and use a line dressing like
the SA product; the line will lay flat in your stripping basket and not be
prone to tangling.
Also when you lay your line in the stripping basket, don't form coils all
in a single neat stack. Alternate your coils around the perimeter of the
basket, so the entire bottom of the basket is covered with coils of line. The
line will shoot out much easier and with less chance of tangling.
Good luck and good tangle free fishing!
