Hi all, Spent a week at Ellis landing, in Brewster. Fished from a kyack/waded. Dis
well on the schoolies. Biggest fish went only 26" but landed about twenty some odd stripers during the week.
A real learning process for me. Monday took the kyack outduring low tide and waded loolking for fish. Srtippers were balling up baitfish in about 3 ft of water, 3 casts-3 fish.
Really fun! Tuesday I paddled out during noon low tide, I found out that by going out to about
3-5 ft water and drifting over the sandy bowls in between the grass I was picking up 20-25 inch
strippers consistently. Did all this on chartruse clousers tied with a lot of flash on 1/0 hooks.
Took 10 strippers in about 1 1/2. Wednesday had a babysitter so was going to pddle out to the edge of the flat, but wind/"swells" (they look like
swells from a kyack!) kept me in about 300 yds from the flats edge, picked up 7 or so strippers and one bitten off fly.
As I was heading in (pulling the kyack in two feet of water--rope tied to life vest)
I saw ta real blitz going on ! About 40 yard long of churning water, tails waving, the whole 9bit!
Threw a fly into the mess (after a 50 yd sprint--not easy in 2 ft of water). Result, about 5 f flys
bitten of but nojt after some great runs. At one point the school followed my hooked fish
in and it was a site, 50 or so fish over the light sandy bottom. All looked about 5-6 lbs.
Continued to fish the deep cut after school spooked out of there picking up
several more bite offs and two small strippers.
I think that the kyacks low profile helped from spooking the fish out on the flats. Did all w fishing
with a 8 wt intermediate shooting head. Kyack had a large cockpit so kept the shooting basket between my legs, worked well.
Thursday was family day so no fishing, Friday weater kept me from going to far out, forgot compass so only took a few casts before heading in.
Also did some surf fishing with 11 wt setup at Coast Guard beach and Nausett light beach with nothing to report.
Fun week!!!!
Tight lines all
