At long last - a sea-run Brown. I managed to land an 17.5" beautifully
silvered brown trout at the mouth of the Marshfield river, some 1/4 mile
below Rt. 28. Caught on a green shrimp pattern fly I got at Eastman's.
Also, there is a lot of schoolie bass lower in the Marshfield river estuary
and Popponesset bay. I put in my canoe over at the new Seabury ramp
and paddled up to the river. There was nothing to see on the surface, but
I could spot bass holding close to the bank in several spots. They seemed to
want anything retrieved slowly along the bottom. No sign of fin rot or any other
anomaly on the fish that I could see.
As I went up the estuary, I caught a couple more bass right up into the river.
If anyone else has had success with sea run browns, please let me know.
This was my first sea-run trout of the season (actually, ever), and I'm
energized for the rest of the season.
