Capt. Mark,
I guess you must still subscribe to the bountiless supply of fish in the ocean
theories. Since you are not down their watching whats going on, how do you
know how many fish are in the school you are catching from. You probably
don't leave in the middle of the bite. SO the next day when you come back and
catch fish their again, is it far fetched that a new school has moved into
the area.
Maybe I should have used "devastate" instead of "decimate" - you know significantly
reduce the numbers of fish in the school.
LOGIC - 1% of the population accounts for 25% of the harvest. Seems pretty
significant to me.
Its funny that netters in NY, NJ and other states make the same arguments
as you. Except they feel they should get their share of the pie like you do.
Numbers of commercial fishermen a crock?? Lets see I thought that the numbers were
something like 3500 to 350,000. Just checked it with my calculator - 1%.
I don't feel that expressing a real concern is whining, maybe you do.
I am in favor of whatever measures it takes to insure the recovery of stripeed
bass. If it means that I can't barbeque the 2 or 3 fish that I enjoy each
year - fine.
The rationale that you exibit is reminesent of that which was common before
the 1970's. Of course we all know what happened in the 1980's.
