Dear Gentlemen,
I thank you for a stimulating discussion on this very emotionally
charged issue. I have not been around very long (34 yrs. old), but in my short life
I have noticed that anything that is overindulged upon has very definite negative
consequences. If the management of our resources continues on it's present course
I truly believe that we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg! I will not point
fingers in this forum as I believe that we all contribute to the degradation of the
the resource. I will not however quit something that I love more than life itself
due to a "possibility" of fish mortality, I will do everything in my power to lessen
my negative effects on the resource and the environment. I will also chime in my
two cents worth when ever possible be it public meetings or BSing with the guys at
the local tackle shop, another words I try to do my part.
I must say that my observations on the water in the past 3-4 years
have been disturbing at best, and taking into account the fact that I do not possess
a BS or Masters degree in Biology or Environmental Science I don't have the answer to
this very perplexing and potentially explosive dilemma. I will say that my personal
opinion is that all of you are ( I include Comms. and Recs. in this statement) some
of the greatest, kindest , sharing, and fun , people I have ever had the pleasure
to meet and fish with , and we as a group have alot to be proud of in our focus group.
Taking this into account I cannot understand why we can't unite on this issue and tell
the politicians and money barons what it is WE want to see happen not what they
say should happen. One more thing, I think I read here that the Lahontan Lake
cutthroat trout used to average like 40" so they put restrictions on them now
the trout in this lake get no bigger than 10# max. I am not completely sure on these numbers
my point being we can wipe out the breeding pool (genes) and never be able to catch
huge bass ever again because there are no big bass genes left to tell these fish to grow
that big. Thanks again for a great thread maybe the best thread ever in my opinion
and I hope to see you all On the Water!!!!! Striper>>>>>>>>>>
