Mike made a great point. The fish are more often than not right at your feet. We all talk about 80-90 foot casts, but they are seldom needed.

If I could pass on one piece of advice it would be to have a couple of different flylines for whatever weight rod you choose to fish. An intermediate and a sinking line are essential, especially if you plan to fish different areas. This greatly improves your odds of catching more, and often larger fish.
