Over the past 2 weekends I have had 4 or 5 Mustad 34007 1/0 hooks snap on me, one on a fish, a couple when I was using pliers to remove a hook from a bluefish and one on a retrieve when I got hung up on something, jerked hard and broke the hook.
All hooks have snapped at the beginning of the bend.
I've been working my way through 200 flies I tied this winter; from 2 different boxes of 100 34007 hooks.
I'm now mildly concerned that I'm going to spend the rest of the summer breaking off one fish after another.
Anyone else experience broken hooks on a semi-consistent basis and have an explanation as to what I'm doing wrong?
