Gary:
I posted the following last month in response to a similar question:
I have seen people wade wet but I am certainly not man enough, especially this early in the year.
The flats are on the west side of the island. They can really only be fished a couple of hours on either side of high tide. Falling
tide is best as fish hang at the flat edges catching the bait as it drains. To actually sight fish, conditions must be ideal, calm and
sunny. More often than not I end up fishing the channel on the other side of the island which also has excellent fishing. It's just
not the flats type fishing you see in all the mags. That exists but is hard to come by.
For the channel, as is usually the case, moving water is best. You also are restricted by the ferry service, last boat out at about
4:00 PM. Rip Ryder will leave early in the morning if you call ahead.
I would suggest George Ryan, who guides surf flyrodders. He took me to Monomoy my first time and I have seen him there a
number of time since. His number is 508 398-6158. Or you can find him through Fishing the Cape. Good guide and makes a
nice lunch too. Tell him I sent you.
Clousers, sand eels. On the flats try a rattle crab.
Good luck! May be there myself and am anxious to hear what the fishing is like.
