Started after work, got to the beach about 6:30. Met a few in the parking
lot coming back in, SLOW. We gave it about 25 minutes, but the wind
was blowing hard making casting tough. Between the 2 of us and about 6
chunk chuckers, I saw nothing. As talk about the river is more and more
common, we grabbed some fresh herring and headed up to a chunk hole.
The two of us caught about a dozen, one close to keeper size and the
action was steady. Many missed fish. The fresh herring definitely outperformed
the frozen mackerel, but it is still chunk bait. The last two times I have
been to the Ocean front, the fly action has been dead. Maybe I am missing the
tides, but it seems the fish have moved into the river. Also, bring bug spray.
