My buddy Jack Denny and I went out of Mattituck Inlet on the north fork of Long Island at 4AM rthis morning on the Maverick, skippered by USCG liscincned guide Joe Blados of Southold, NY. We found large schools of 3-6lb blues almost immediately and hooked uo untill we decided that " this is too easy. let's go inshore and look for bass". Although we saw numeroues fish on the bars that parallel the shore, I got the only two, the largest a 6 1/2 pounder that smashed a chartruese over white bead chain clouser. Capt.Joe Blados of Maverick charters proved to be an excellant guide with an intimate knowledge of the local water and an easy going and personablev individual, something that is lacking in many of todays fly fishing guides. Joe can be reached at 516/765-3670.
