Larry, I never used a factory made rod. I had a couple of rods custom made. I
then rebuilt them and made others myself. No fancy wraps, just neat and
functional. Nice way to spend a couple of winter evenings. After a couple of hours
plugging with a surf spinner my neck and back would be aching. With a conventional
I could fish all night in comfort.
I have a couple of spinning rods which I generally let my son use. I stick with
the conventionals. When I hook a fish and hand him the rod he feels the
conventional tries to twist in his hands. I'm used to it, so I don't notice it.
