Thurs -> Sat summary due to broken BBS.
Thurs evening; 8PM - 4 casts off Green Pond by boat; 2 blues; 10 casts off a spot near Bournes Pond 4 or 5 blues.
Friday AM - northwest wind pushed fish off the shore. Blues were in 6' of water perhaps 1/2 mile off the moss bank at Poppy. Blues at the 12' depth level off Succonnesset point. Lost a May monster bass ( perhaps 36 + inches) in Waquoit Bay on a silly little 1/2 oz jig and 8# test. Never really got the fish near the boat; but saw its size a couple times.
Friday PM I found blues on the surface off Cotuit and caught them with a fly till myarm dropped off. At dusk I did some jetty hopping from one ponf to another to avoid the masses; dunking eels for the first time all year. Two hits; one fish - 34-36" and closeto 15-20#. The fish was taken off a non-descriptpitiful little jetty about 2' from the tip of the rocks.
Sat AM ran to Poppy - found blues again off Succonnesset pt in 12' of water; lots of fly action. No blues off Wading Place Rd, a few 1/2 mile off the Moss Bank; I was low on gas so didn't go further.
Used eels in broad daylight at 7:15 AM at an obvious structure spot somewhere betweeen Poppy Inlet and Waquoit and took two beatiful 32-34" 12-15# stripers as well as having 2 more hard hits.
Had a hell ride back fromthe Vineyard with 3 scared little girls and one scared boat driver. 10 knot winds at 10 AM turned into SW20-25 at 1:30 and 4-5' breaking seas.
A complete and terrifying reminder of why a deep V hull rules on Vineyard Sound; while scared and wet I was able to power back under control at 14 knots on a slow plane. A cathedral or skiff would have been in trouble.
Going out walking the jetties with eels in 15 minutes as the sun sets.
