Just returned from a weekend of fishing with my son and one of his friends (both 12 yr olds). This was the first time ocean fishing for his friend. Well... I think he's hooked real good... Beginners luck kissed him with a keeper yesterday and another today. Both taken on Herring chunks. Boy is his Mom proud. Jeff's first was taken on Saturday (29.5") and hit the tail section of a Herring fished on a Bluefish wire rig - figure that one out. His second keeper taken earlier today was on 50# mono leader with the head section. We usually do better with the heads rather than tails unless we're after Blues. My son and I also caught 2 more stripers - a schoolie for me and a 27.5" heartbreaker for him. I also manged a 36" racer Blue that weighed 11lbs. We lost three other bules that bit through our mono leaders but at least not until getting them up near shore. Good action and a most beautiful place to spend the weekend.
