Spent a great weekend on MV.
Drove out to Wasque all three days and did well with the Blues. Interestingly I also picked up a couple of Stripers in broad daylight, dragging a 4oz Hopkins across the bottom. One was 29".
As for the Blues, Sunday was by far the best day, with the fish arriving around 2:30pm, and lasting until about 4pm. Action was all on top, with Balistic Missiles and Rangers the lure of choice. Slapping, chopping blues following the lure, then WHAM...big hits with the fish running into that monster Wasque rip. Landed 8 blues on Sunday with one weighing in on the boga at 15lbs. Lot's of tail dancing, head shaking action. What a ball.
Sunday evening my wife and I went out with a guide(Cooper Gilkes III)and were rewarded with several large stripers out on Cape Poge. My wife landed a 33" fish among a few others and I managed three over 30". Initially I was fly fishing, but the fish were out of my range so I switched over to a light spinning reel with a needlefish lure to get within range of the tailing stripers. We missed as many fish as we landed as they exploded on the dropping lure. One made a gut wrenching popping noise as it missed the lure, and it seemed to be a big daddy. At first we were in among a very large school with boils and tailing fish 360 degrees around us. They would move up and down the pond, coming back within casting range each time. After about an hour of this, the school seemed to break up, but we still had a good pod within range for another 1/2 hour. Once darkness arrived, the fish left and the mosquitos appeared.
All in all, a great fishing weekend and particularly a great Sunday!
