I was in that area last Thursday. There big pods of jumbo blues cruising by.
Whenever I'd hook one, about 20 or 30 of his mates would follow it up on the flats. After the 4th or 5th bite off, I put on a wire leader. NAturaly the schools that followed were mostly bass. Several time I fished a Clouser right thru a huge school of small bass only to have them rewfuse it. Off came the wire leader and PRESTO, the bass hit it again. All in all I caught about 20 stripers up to 28". Sunday I went back and NADA, nothing, not a hit. The fish are there but the fishing may be sporadic. I'd give it a shot. In fact I plan to later in the week.
