Common Sense Wading

Had the bad experience of watching someone almost drown on a river in Maine this weekend.
The guy went over in a rip, the air in his waders brought his feet up and the
rip carried him into water over his head. When he tried to swim water filled his
waders and he started to go down. He was lucky that someone was fishing a
bar further down was able to grab and pull him out. Believe me this guy was seconds
away from ending it all! He said he was excited over catching schoolies on his
fly rod and didn't think it was that dangerous.

Later that day at Plum Island I watched two people holding hands to get out as far
as they could on the bar to fly fish. Then they casted 30'.

Man anyone on this site with experience can tell you that someone drowns there every
other year. Also the BIG fish are far out and down deep. If you cannot cast a dept
charge line to your backing you arn't going to get one. You will only catch
schoolies, and anyone here can tell you of many many more places to get all the
school fish you want, and where, without risking your life.

Just email me or ask any of the other regulars on this site and we will be glad
to give you many safe places to catch all you want.

If I sound like an old mother hen, I apologise, but I don't want to see what I
watched this weekend ever again.
