Fished Joppa flats; P.I. sandbar and the P.I. river under the bridge this
morning from 5-8. Joppa was hot for spin fisherman when I arrived at 5
but a 15 knot in my face northeast breeze kept me from getting my fly into the channel where the fish where. I had some great hooksets on mussels, but their fight and run left something to be desired.
Checked out the dead and over baited sandbar at the end of the low; took a few desultory casts and left the bait boys to chumming for crabs. Word was that it was slow at dawn.
I had also passed on the beachfront because I met someone in the church parking lot at about 7 who said the beahfront was rough and weed-infested.
Not quite ready to quit I dredged the Plum Island River in the marsh under the bridge at the beginning of incoming and got two small schoolies on a olive/chartreue/white herring pattern.
