If you fish the river from the Salisbury side it has less current and people, you
can also fish the beach at the state park where you can get some great schoolie
action. Check first as the beach around Plum was just loaded with weeds and if
the NE wind keeps blowing it will continue. The best area though with kids is
Ipswich beach which has a great state park picnic tables, hiking trails and more
to do if they get bored with fishing. It also has a long flats area for wade
fishing. The other area that is safe with kids is the State Park at the south end
of Plum Island, but there is no picnick area.
