The Striper Diet

The only problem with fishing at lunch is I forget to eat. Took an extended
lunch today, had to they were biting ! Got to the marsh at lunch and met two
guys there, three hours hadn't had a hit. One had a kastmaster, one had flies.
Never strayed more than 40 seconds from the parking area. Ever notice how some
people seem to think parked cars qualify as structure ? Anyways, I hiked in 15
minutes or so, past the small tidal pond I found yesterday, jumping over all
the little ditches till I reached a place where the tide was ripping over a
sandbar and around a point. Got 3 small schoolies on 4 casts on a wht/olive
clouser, then it died off. Switched to a black deceiver when the clouds came
through and got a decent 24" schoolie, then it died off again. Switched to a
blue and white deceiver and had the most frustrating 15 minutes I've had in
quite a while. Kept getting hits, big hits, hits with some weight for a change,
but they were striking short or hitting just as I was picking up. Drove me nuts.
I must have missed 8 or so when I finally decided to stop flogging and think
about it. Switched to a polar & blue ultra clouser to show them the same color
but with less to look at. Uh huh ! Caught 4 or 5 more 22-26" fish before the
tide slacked and the fishing with it. The other guys saw where I was, but I'm
sure they won't go to the trouble of slogging through the marsh to get there.
Now I'm starved, the cafe is closed and the candy machine is singing to me.
Yours in doritoland,
jc
