A canal regular gave me a few tips a few years back when I first decided

to fish the ditch. He said he only fishes the heads. He said the bass

love them. Being new to salt water (fished most of my life in fresh water

in NJ) I could not believe something would eat the head. I questioned

his advise as I baited the head on my pole. This was a much larger bait

than I was used to. Anyway, this guy fished the canal for years so I figured

he knew what he was talking about. So I religiosly fished the heads and yes

I did catch quite a few nice bass. I now fish most of the body (chum some)

and the head. The heads catch fish but I agree with you. If something hits

the head its usually a keeper.
