East Canal Report and Piracy on the High Seas

Fished the last hour of the East tide (high), slack and the outgoing (West tide) Sunday AM. Birds everywhere on Maritime Flats. Schoolies on almost every cast. Worked the channel and hooked into my first keeper of the year (30”, 11 lb.). Tide turned slack
and all went dead. Once the tide turned there where birds galore again, this time on Mashnee, tons of bait (looked like sand eels but I’m no expert) to compete with as they were more finicky. Saw both fly and spin fisherman being very successful. I also
landed and released a nice 24” on light tackle.

On a down note, I saw three guys fishing the channel catch three keepers over a period of about 30 minutes. After they caught the last keeper they headed back to Onset Bay. I thought, what a great morning, it’s only 8:00 AM , each of you have a keeper, go
have breakfast and you still have the whole day ahead of you. But NO, they dumped the fish and where back out fishing and catching and keeping more fish (two more). made be sick! These guys where not kids, but grown adults in there 40’s/50’s. Not exactly
the kind of examples to be setting. I have seen these same guys out there each weekend. If you read this we know who you are, although, you probably will not see this post as it’s obvious that you have no class and therefore would not read this BB.
