Penn 650SS reel problems 6/8/98

My Penn 650 SS spinning reel has been a little sick lately. After the bail spring broke, the bail became detatched from the side of the reel that the spring is on. I replaced the bail spring and have tried to force the bail wire back into the small spac
e, but it continues to pop out frequently.

There does not seem to be a screw or any other adjustment on the bail roller to secure the attachment to the bail. I have also tried bending the bail slightly to make it fit into the hole even tighter. That also did not work.

On another reel related note, I got lazy last year and had my reel serviced by a shop near the cape. The retreive got very sticky feeling after about 4 months and the drag would unpredictably slip under the pressure of bigger fish. Keep in mind that the
y "changed" all the drag washers. Anyway, the reel has never been the same. Upon opening up the gear case, I found an extraordinary amount of reel grease. It looked like someone had emptied a tub of cheap margarine into my Penn. There was so much ranc
id grease that small pockets of had trapped drops of water and were holding them against the frame of the reel where it was corroding.

So, choose your reel repair people carefully or do it yourself!

Any clues on the bail problem?

Thanks,

Dave
