There was surface action on the South Shore today, Jay, but you still couldn't catch 'em. I kayaked around Strawberry Point [which might as well be a secret name, since only Bill Downing has ever called it that] to see if there are any big bass in the area you described or if you've simply been addled by acid flashbacks.
While I can't rule out drug abuse on your part, I will say that there are bass around rocks which are very much like your rock. There were bass finning an porpoising just outside Cohassett harbor, there were sporadic rises of bass that didn't appear to be feeding in places where there didn't appear to be food.
And I saw bunches of bass of goodly size down below me in crystal clear water. I had a total of one follow on the day, which may have been a coincidental bass in the region of my fly, but I'm claiming a follow.
