Bill:
My theory about waquoit is that its futile to fish it from shore on weekends as between the traffic and the bait fisherman, the usually abundant schoolies get chased off.
That surface school you followed down South cape is a daily thing during mid-summer. I've tripped over it about 3 years in a row, and as you say; there's no one ever around. As I recall it continues all summer, till about an hour after dawn, basically I fish that area in August at dawn for stripers while I wait for the bonito to do their daily morning wakeup.
